7 Days Were Enough for Him to Know that She is the One

WHAAAAAAAAT? 😱

We know that this emoji might not be able to show our exact emotion but believe us, we were as shocked and surprised as you are right now when Anumita told us that Shankar proposed to her for marriage within one week they connected.

Yes, One week. 7 Days. 168 Hours. 10,080 Minutes. 6,04,800 Seconds to be precise.

But soon, a thought struck us - ‘There is no perfect duration to know that a person is the one for you.’ It just happens. And when it happens, you don’t hear guitars, violins, and saxophones play all around you like it happened around SRK in Main Hoon Na. Instead, when you identify your soulmate, your senses start to work overtime. You feel a certain kind of peace around you. Above everything, you feel like everything is complete at that moment.

Shankar felt exactly the same when he decided to propose to Anumita. Well, Shankar had to feel that way. You cannot feel any other way with a girl whose name means love and kindness.

For some people, it might be hard to believe the story of Anumita and Shankar, especially the part about proposing within seven days of connection on a matrimony app. But when you peel it one layer after another, only then you would know how beautiful their story is. We thought who could be better than Anumita to tell her story? So, we had a lovely chat with her. Also, we wouldn’t want to miss this chance of making all of you believe in the uncertainty of finding your soulmate when you are least expecting it.

We always feel this strong urge to ask people about how soon they connected with their partner after joining our platform, Betterhalf.ai. When we asked Anumita about when did she connect with Shankar, she said,

“I joined Betterhalf somewhere at the end of February. Within two days. He sent me a request, and I accepted. In the first week, we chatted there only, and then we moved to Instagram. After that, we met and exchanged numbers so that we could talk on the phone. Within a week, he proposed to me for marriage.”

As if we weren’t surprised enough, this answer from Anumita made us more surprised. How lovely and strong their connection was!! Also, we couldn't ignore the beautiful smile on her face when she said - "within two days!'

Our next question to her was about how things started initially? What was the first message like? We could see a smile on her face as soon as she started speaking. Telling her about it, she said,

“We both were looking for marriage partners and I think it was the best thing between us. When we started talking, he asked me if my parents will allow love marriage to which I told him that yes, it's allowed with one condition - Ladka same caste se hone chahiye. Since we both are from the same caste, there was no problem. As I told you that we first started chatting only on Betterhalf. But after a few days, we moved to Instagram. Surprisingly, we didn't exchange our numbers. We decided that we will meet first and then we will see. Within one week, he proposed. We both talked to our families. Then my father and brother went to his house to talk about marriage and fixed everything. Everything was so quick and sudden. But we trusted each other.”

Man, oh, man! After hearing this, we made up our minds that their story will not stop surprising us. But it was time to ask about the most amazing part - their first meeting. Sharing her experience about it, she told us,

“I am someone who talks a lot in texting. And I found out that he is the same as me. So, we were chatting a lot. In the famous comedian Zakir Khan's words - 'Chat nahi ho rahi hain, Chat-ein ho rahi hain.'

However, I'm a bit shy when it comes to meeting someone for the first time. So, when we met for our first meeting, I wasn't speaking much, while Shankar wasn't feeling any such thing as he is very talkative by nature. So, he told me that when we were chatting online, you weren't stopping, and now you are being silent. I told him that I'm a bit shy and don't talk much until I become completely comfortable with someone. Now that we have spent so much time together, I talk non-stop. He also says that his first impression of me was so wrong. :D”

Hahaha... Well Shankar, if you are reading this, we would like you to know that we get you. We completely get you!

It doesn’t matter how much you prepare for it, meeting with someone’s parents can be a tough task. Anumita told us that she went to Gujarat to meet Shankar’s parents. And we begged her to tell us more about it, and she graciously agreed.

“Shankar's parents live in Gujarat, while Shankar and I live in Mumbai. So, I met them after six months once everything was fixed regarding our marriage. And yes, I forgot to tell you one thing - After meeting with my father and brother, Shankar's parents warned him to not bother me a bit as they like myself and my family a lot. They did so because they know Shankar’s talkative and jolly nature. They feared that it might hurt or bother me and my family.

So, when I first met with his parents, they were talking in Gujarati, and everything was going over my head. So, in front of them, I mostly remained silent. However, they kept asking me about how marriages happen on my side. In Gujarat, marriages happen during the day, while on my side, marriages happen at night only. Despite the language barrier, I felt connected with them as they were showing interest in knowing me.”

Two people in a relationship like and dislike different things about each other. And we understand it could be difficult for anyone to pick one favorite thing in their betterhalf. However, when we asked Anumita what she likes most in Shankar, she replied,

“Shankar is a fun-loving guy like me. Actually, I like travelers and happening people. His nature attracted me a lot because, with him, I can go anywhere and not get bored. I enjoy his company a lot. I always think of myself as a talkative person. But when I met him, I got to know that he is more talkative than me. Also, he loves food. And that’s a plus.”

When we asked Anumita about any interesting incident in their relationship, she was a bit skeptical whether it’s interesting enough or not. We told her to not think of any such thing and share it with a free mind. And please see how cute and memorable that incident was.

“Honestly speaking, we haven't had any such particular memories. And let me tell you the reason behind this. Due to Covid lockdown, we haven't met enough. I don't know whether it is memorable or not but this incident happened during our engagement. On that day, my whole family, cousins and everyone else was dancing and we were watching them. Suddenly he said to me that he wants to dance so badly but he cannot go and dance right now because of our in-laws. We were like - ‘Please, koi to bula le humko dance karne ke liye!’ But everyone was so happy dancing that they forgot to invite us.”

Lesson from this: Never curb your urge to dance. Always dance your hearts out whenever you want to.

Sharing her feelings about commitment, Anumita told us that she didn’t feel any such thing until now. But from the last few days, this commitment thing has dawned upon her. Like she is going to get married and that too, in a different culture.

“I have lived a bachelor's life all these years. I've been living alone in Mumbai all on my own. Now I have to live with Shankar’s family. How will I be able to manage things and all that? So, there is some excitement as well. But I'm a bit scared too. Honestly speaking, I cannot explain. But you can say I’m happily anxious.”

As per Anumita, the thing that helps them work as a couple is the mutual understanding they share. Continuing about it, she said,

“Well, we were looking for our life partners. And we both believed that understanding is the most precious thing to have in a relationship. Without it, nothing will hold. Luckily, he has so much understanding in him about everything in general. Like even if I don't call one day, he understands that I might have something because of which I didn't call. The same goes for me too. I also understand when he doesn't even send a single message in a day. We like to be clear to each other and don't fight on such petty concerns. We understand that we both can be busy sometimes, and it’s okay to give space to each other when required.”

We wish more couples would understand the ‘Understanding’ part. Our last question to Anumita about the meaning of the marriage for her. She paused for a few seconds and told us,

“Well, I never thought about it per se. I think marriage is all about settling. I can't tell you about the boys, but for girls, marriage is a kind of settlement in life where you are starting a new family where you have a husband. And a few years down the line, you will have children. So, you are going to settle now. There's no more running now. Marriage gives you that stability.”

Well, Anumita has spoken the truest words. Stability. Marriage gives you the much-needed stability in life. We sincerely wish Anumita and Shankar a stable, happy, and healthy life ahead! May they become more understanding, fun-loving, and happening as time passes on! If you are also looking for that stability in your life, you can try Betterhalf.
